Editor Extraordinaire

The English language is complicated, and it can be really confusing. With so many rules and exceptions, it can be next to impossible to keep track of it all in order to create a well-polished and error-free document. Hiring a proofreader or copy editor can seem like an unnecessary expense, but it can make the difference between failure and success. That one awkward sentence might be what gets your admissions essay tossed aside, or that one misused comma might be what gets your submission rejected instead of onto the publisher’s desk. You’ve already done the hardest part; don’t let your hard work go to waste by letting these small errors be your downfall.

Proofreading

$3.00/page

The Proofreading Package consists of spelling and grammar corrections only. This package only looks at technical errors as opposed to things such as awkward phrasing, ambiguities, or the general flow of things. For edits like these, please see my Copy Editing package.

Copy Editing

$4.00/page

The Copy Editing Package looks at not only the technically incorrect, but also things such as awkward phrasing, ambiguities, or the general flow of sentences. I will make a note at each place I find something that doesn’t quite work, including suggestions as to how you might improve the area. Any spelling or grammar errors will also be corrected. This package does not look at any content-related issues or issues related to the flow of the work overall (as opposed to the flow of sentences). For edits like these, please see my Content Editing package.

Content Editing

$7.50/page

The Content Editing package looks at how the piece works as a whole. Some of the things I look for while content editing include (but are certainly not limited to) continuity errors, organization of the piece, any missing content (for example, if a foreign concept is introduced but not explained), or, conversely, any extraneous content that might be detracting from the piece. The Content Editing package also includes line edits, such as those provided in the Basic Copy Editing package. The Content Editing package is ideal for works such as short stories, novellas, or novels ready for editing.

**Please note that the Content Editing package does not include fact-checking.**

**Please note that all services have a one page minimum charge.**

How It Works

Accepted Content

Proofreading and Copy Editing:

Anything! Send me your short stories, your chapters, your novels, your fanfics, your essays, your applications. Anything you have typed up that you want proofread or copy edited, send it on over and I will be more than happy to give it a go.

Content Editing:

At this time, I only accept non-technical literature for content editing, however I do welcome work of any genre within that realm.

Accepted File Types and Formats

All documents must be submitted either through Google Docs or as Microsoft Word documents. All documents must be formatted using size 12 Times New Roman font, double spaced, with 1 inch margins. All page counts will be made using this specific formatting.

Edits

All edits will be made through the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word or the Suggested Edits feature in Google Docs. Comments may also be left through the aforementioned features, either if they are included in the editing package purchased or if clarification is needed.

How to Purchase

In order to purchase a package, please email me at artemis@writingingrey.com. Please include all relevant information (listed below). I will let you know whether or not I am able to take on your project at the current time, and, if yes, what the total cost will be.

*Please note: While I will respond to all inquiries as soon as possible, responses may take up to 24 hours. Emails are not checked over the weekend.

What to Include

When inquiring about purchasing a package, please include the following information:

  • Which package you would like to purchase (please specify by name)

  • The total page count of your work*

  • Any other relevant information, such as “need by” dates and/or times

Payment

Once you send me the work you would like proofread or copy edited, I will send you an invoice. You may pay upon receipt of the invoice, or you may wait until edits have been completed. Once edits have been completed, I will notify you via email. Payment is due no later than upon completion of your revised work. Revised work will be returned after payment has been received. All payments must be made in full, unless you have chosen a partial payment plan (see below). All payments must be made via PayPal.

Partial Payment Plans

If you have a work that is at least 15 pages* in length, you may request a partial payment plan. I will then edit your work in smaller sections (no less than 5 pages* at a time), rather than the entire document at once. Payment would then be due for each section upon its completion. The partial payment plan is great if you want to start work on some revisions while I am still working on the rest of your document, or if you have a planned budget and would only like to spend a certain amount per week/month/paycheck/etc.

Tips

Tips are certainly not required, nor are they expected. If, however, you happen to feel an overwhelming desire to monetarily thank me for my work above and beyond the agreed-upon payment, tips are welcome (and greatly appreciated!).
